Reiki is a Japanese word that has two parts. ‘Rei’ meaning Universal and ‘Ki” meaning energy. Literally, Reiki means “Universal Life energy”, an energy that is all around us.
The aim of Reiki is to restore balance. Being ‘unbalance’ is being unwell. The Reiki energy tries to remove any blocks, working for what is good or best for the receiver.
Reiki may enhance personal awareness and targets the causes of our problems, allowing us to act in balance with ourselves. Reiki also helps to work with unconditional love in order to get rid of our own fears, the feeling of guilt, uncertainty, rejection, despair and the symptoms and causes of illness.
As in any healing technique, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
Words used in an attempt to describe Reiki energy are love, compassion, nurture, support and peace.
A Reiki treatment usually takes around 1 hour. During the treatment, the recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. There is no need to remove any clothing. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions, which cover the whole body.
